Resolved question:
Was diagnosed with pericoronitis on 1/28/15. Was given peridex and 500mg amoxicillin to be taken 3 times a day until this coming Tuesday. The tooth seems to be getting better, however, I can't say the same of my throat. My tonsils still have white specks on them and there is this (see picture) white ulcer/lesion at the back of my mouth opposite the infected wisdom tooth. I know the infection is likely systemic, but I wanted to make sure about my throat (the only pain is really coming from the lesion). I don't know/think it is strep but I was curious about ways to get this healed quickly (I have a very big physical coming up in the first week of Feb. How quickly do you expect this to heal? Do I need my PCP to check for strep?
Thank you

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
The white round lesion near the palate looks like an aphthous ulcer.
Generally these are self limiting, but can sometimes stay for 1 or 2 weeks and subside.
There are no specific treatments for this, treatments are for symptoms of pain.
Benzydamine gargle can help reduce pain and irritation.
Xylocaine gel application can also reduce pain if causing too much of trouble.
Only in some cases soft tissue lasers can be used to remove the lesion and hasten healing.
I don't think it's related to the pericoronitis.

Do I need to be checked for strep? The back of my throat looks inflamed and there is some white muscus like substance on the tonsils. See picture.
Hello,
Thank you for the follow-up.
Yes, there is some inflammation and throat infection.
You're already taking amoxycillin and that is enough for the infection. Instead of 3 days, I advise you to take amoxy for 5 days to ensure there is no resistance. Otherwise, no further testing is required.
Regards.
