Resolved question:
Hi Doctor,
I have some white lump under my tongue since 2 days ago. And since this morning, I have white lumps on both side of my tongue. I am on a business trip now to a new place, since 5 days ago. I don't feel pain from these lumps. The details of the lumps are in my attachment pictures.
Please help advise what problem I am having. Thank you very much.

Hello,
Thank you for your consult at DoctorSpring.com.
White tongue lesions are spots of fungal or bacterial infection on the tongue (ie. oral thrush, lichen planus) that sometimes appear as white patches. Other white tongue lesions are canker or cold sores that appear on the tongue or the sides of the mouth.
For time being gargle with salt water or diluted hydrogen peroxide. Try to avoid foods or beverages that may have caused your tongue lesions, as well. (such as mint flavored gum, acidic food, powerful toothpaste, tobacco, alcohol, or spicy food)
Also importantly, practice good oral hygiene. :brushing your teeth, flossing, and brushing your tongue regularly, your mouth will have a better fighting chance against whatever is ailing it (especially if the ailment is bacteria).
You need to consult an oral surgeon for a consultation if symptoms persist or increase.
Hope this helps, please feel free to get back with follow-ups.

Hi Doctor,
Thanks for your reply. I am currently on business trip and worried about the hygienic of their bathroom here. Am concern if the sore are related to any STD as I have heard of such infection passed through dirty bathroom and linens. So does the sore resemble any STD sore?
Regards,
Andrew
Hello Andrew,
No these does not look like STDs (although STDs are not my area of expertise). I assume there was no oral exposure (oral sex). In that case STDs need not be considered. Please follow the general measures I have recommended. The lesion should resolve in a week or two.
If there is a history of unprotected sexual exposure please let me know.
Hope this helps

Hi Dr. Girish,
I'm a male. I did not perform Oral Sex on others. But there is a history of unprotected Oral Sex performed on me in the past week. So am I right to say, if I do not perform Oral Sex on others, I will not have STD related sore in my mouth? And all these lesion should be due to poor hygienic?
Yes you are right, if there is no oral exposure, no risk of STD. Recieving oral sex will not put in risk for this.
Poor hygiene is one cause, added to that dead cells can accumulate to cause this kind of presentation.
Unless it persists there is no reason to worry. In that (rare) case you will require further tests to confirm the diagnosis. Hope this helps. Feel free to ask followups
