Resolved question:
My 12 year old son has a mole on his left ear I do not like the look of. It has been there approx 2 years old patientwhen it started growing from a small freckle. Have seen a dermatologist twice about it, both times they said it was not serious and would not remove it or biopsy it. One said to bring my son back when he is 18 to have it removed if it was still ugly as removing it now would cause scarring that could be bothersome as he grows. But I think it should be investigated now. Before I run to yet another doctor, can you give me your opinion. Many thanks.

Hello
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com. I can understand your concern. I reviewed the picture.
This mole needs immediate biopsy and removal. It has a variegated appearance i.e it has a varied colour within the mole. that falls in the abcde criteria for diagnosis of a melanoma.
Hence its best to do a biopsy for it to know the diagnosis.
Please let me know if you have any queries.
Take care
Hi there, the dermatologists I saw previously advised it was a "Dysplastic Naevus". Is this serious?
Dysplastic naevus resembles melanoma on appearance. It is important to ascertain it by biopsy as melanoma is dangerous. Early diagnosis and treatment is warranted.
Thanks
