Symptoms of herpes and Gardasil vaccine

Resolved question:

Hello doctor, I am man of 50 years. I had a relationship with a woman with symptoms like that of herpes. I can be sure of this because I have seen the pictures of herpes in medical journal. I heard about its vaccine Gardasil but I am not sure whether it would be good for me as it is for people under 26 years of age? Is there any other solution?

Thank you for the question. Basically these vaccines are for people under 26 years because this is the most susceptible strata of population. Studies are in progress for older men and women. Type 1 herpes virus is transmitted orally by saliva. Kissing an infected person can transmit the disease. Oral herpes occur as blisters in mouth and look very similar to blisters due to fever. Type 1 herpes can sometimes cause genital herpes and vice-versa if undergoing oral sex. Type 2 herpes virus is transmitted sexually. Genital herpes is one of the most common STDs. You must have seen the pictures of herpes because they are widely printed in journals due to their wide spread. Both cases of herpes look similar. Use of condoms cannot protect you against infection because all the blisters or sores cannot be covered with condoms. During this stage one must avoid any physical contact with other person. This disease spreads really fast without a person knowing about and till the symptoms appear clearly, the disease has already been transmitted. For testing, pap-smear test and HPV DNA test are performed. The latter one gives accurate results.

I cannot be extremely sure of the drug you mentioned because studies are still going on. I want you to see your doctor and get yourself diagnosed. Please tell him exactly what all happened and the diseased status of your girlfriend. Good luck ahead.
