Smoking before surgery

Resolved question:
Will smoking 2 cigarettes last weekend affect my surgery under general anesthetic tomorrow if i am not really classified as a smoker and have only smoked maybe 3 times in my entire life and not often at all? Also i occasionally smoke cannabis but the last time i did that was on new years so i dont think thats too much of a problem.

Hello,

Thank you for choosing DoctorSpring.

NO , this will NOT affect your Surgery in anyway. Even chronic smoking has no significant immediate effect on surgery in an otherwise healthy individual. Same with the Cannabis. Unless you have smoked in within 24 hours there is no effect.

Wish you good health and fast recovery from surgery.

Hope this helps

Thank you so much for the response! i feel a lot more at ease getting advice from an actual doctor but should i still tell the anesthesiologist about it?

That would be your call. Normally it is better to tell The Anaesthesiologist all history. However a couple of cigarettes and smoking weed more than a week back would not make any difference. So you can decide either-way.

Thank you
