I have noticed a red/black dot on my penis. It doesnt hurt or itche or anything Im just surprised that it showed up with no apparent reason.

I understand your concern.
Sudden appearance of such black spots on the penis could be indicative of minute capillary breaks or tears, or can even be a hyperpigmented spot. Though since it happened overnight it seems to be due to a capillary break.
Was there any trauma to the penis?
Otherwise such spots can appear because of allergies or in some cases due to STIs. Is there any concern for sexually transmitted infection?
Right now, provided there is no history of STIs, it does not look to be anything to be worried about. Just watch out for an increase in size.

I was not aware of any specific trauma to the area. Should not be STI related as far as I know.
Assuming it is indeed due to capillary break - how soon should I expect it to dissolve/disappear?

Without any trauma or any STI, it mostly seems like a minute capillary break.
In that case, these kind of a spot should resolve within a week or two.
Please watch out for any increase in the size, or any development of associated features such as itching/ discharge.
