Rash on forhead.

Resolved question:
I was on Clindamycin topical lotion 1% for a year and it helped tremendously with my acne. However I believe I built up a resistance to it and developed a rash on my forehead. I stopped using it and after 5 months it cleared up. My question is- after nearly 6 months is it safe to go back on Clindamycin topical lotion ?

Hello,

Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com. I can understand your concern.

Could you please let me know what kind of rash had you developed after using clindamycin lotion? Could you please describe the rash? Was it acne or different from that?

Please reply as follow-up.

Regards

Patient replied :

The rash was located above my left eye about the size of a quarter- very red and irritated- not acne- it also was between my eyes- I have spent hundreds of dollars on steroid treatments that failed and didn't work. The rash was red and bumpy- more inflamed after a shower.

Hello
Thanks for your reply.

I would recommend that you do not start the clindamycin lotion again. The rash sounds like an allergy that you might have got due to it. To be on the safer side, it would be better to start another cream like benzoyl peroxide 2.5% for acne rather than re starting clindamycin.

I hope this has helped.

Thankyou

IT wasn't until 2 months after I stopped the clindamycin that the rash cleared up- I was also linking it to dairy causing the issue... When I stopped the dairy the rash started improving within 2 days- so I'm not exactly sure what was causing it..

Hello

Thanks for your reply.

I would suggest that you needn't take a chance and start clindamycin again. It would be better to switch to another cream as its unclear what's causing the rash.
