Resolved question:
I am 8 months pregnant and a student of mine shined a red laser pointer at me during class. It was a small laser pointer on a key chain, probably like the ones used for lecture, maybe a bit smaller. I don't think he was standing too close to me when it happened. I was just wondering if I need to be concerned about this. Please advise. Thank you.

Hello Jackie,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
Firstly, congratulations on your pregnancy !.
Now for the good news - there is NO ASSOCIATION between laser pointers and damage to the fetus. At the very most, very potent and powerful laser lights ( not at all the minor laser used for pointers ) - can cause damage to the eye and skin if these are persistently exposed to the laser.
Incidental shining of the pointer during class will cause least damage to you or the fetus.
Please go through the link attached, will give you more information about lasers -

If the technical jargon is too much, just forget about it.
You are at no risk, and should not be thinking about this at all.
Hope this helps, feel free to ask follow-up questions, if any.
Take care.
