Resolved question:
Hi. I am about 4 months late for my period. I have not had it since i told my virginity. But i have taken 3 pregnancy tests at 3 times very spread out and all 3 said i was not pregnant. Is there a way that i could still be pregnant but it is not being indicated on the test? Please help, this is very stressful. Thanks

Hello,
Thanks for writing to DoctorSpring.com with your health concern.
With 3 negative pregnancy tests, you are definitely not pregnant.
And the answer for such a long menstrual delay lies in your question. Obesity, stress, tensions - these are the leading causes of menstrual delay.
You have always had a history of irregular cycles, so please get investigated for the same. I think the diagnosis in your case would be PCOS - polycystic ovarian syndrome. Herein there is baseline hormonal imbalance, so ovulation and menstruation are erratic. Please visit a gynaecologist for a formal internal evaluation - per vaginum and per speculum.
Also a pelvic ultrasound scan.
Please get blood work done = FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, OGTT, DHEAS, Free testosterone.
This would reveal the diagnosis.
Cyclical oral contraceptive pills would regulate your periods.
Losing weight will go a long way towards improving the symptoms.
All the best.
Take care, and please feel free to discuss further.
Thank you doctor for your help! It did help me to distress knowing I am definitely not pregnant! Just a follow up question. Is it a good sign that I am ovulating and have minor cramps? Does this mean I have a good chance of getting my period this month?
The signs are not definite in anyway.
Having four months of amenorrhoea is reason enough to have a formal workup as outlined by me earlier, since there is definitely some underlying pathology.
I would advise you to go to the gynecologist either way and get yourself examined.
I hope this helps.
All the best.
