Lump under rib

Resolved question:
Hi! I have a lump seemingly on my rib right under my right breast. It does not move and is pretty large. I just changed insurances so it will be a few weeks till I can see my new primary doctor. Should I be worried.

Hello,

Thank you for choosing DoctorSpring.

I would like to know some additional details from you so that I can provide a solid and learned opinion.
You can reply as a followup

1. You have mentioned "on the rib, under your breast " - Is this swelling inside the breast tissue ? I mean do you feel this particular swelling when touching over the breast ?

The location is very important. If possible do give me more explanation.

2. is the swelling totally fixed to your ribs ?

3. Is the surface of the swelling regular or irregular ?

4. Is there any discharge from the nipple ?

5. Do you have any swelling in the arm pit that side ? You can check by deep palpating,

Thank you

Patient replied :

1. It feels like it's attached to the rib, though right in the lower breast. If I raise my arm it stays down on the rib.

2. Yes.

3. It's smooth and about the size of a thumb. Very tender to the touch too. It's been going on for awhile, but thought it was just irritation from the underwire of my bra, just tonight I noticed it was much larger than I thought and only on one side.

4. Not that I've noticed.

5. I don't think so.

Also, of all the medical history questions, I do have allergies and asthma.

Thanks!

4.

Hello,

This painful fixed swelling is unlikely to be dangerous (cancerous) . This is more likely to be an infective / inflammatory lesion. This is what I infer from your description.
But still I would advice against a delay more than 2-3 weeks in getting it evaluated. You can post a picture of the lesion if it is readily visible. (as a followup)

Hope this helps
