Resolved question:
Can you please review my PAP Smear results and let me know what they mean:
SATISFACTORY FOR EVALUATION. OBSCURING INFLAMMATION.
LOW GRADE SQUAMOUS INTRAEPITHELIAL LESION.
I am a 45 y/o Caucasian female.
I am perimenopausal.
I have Hashimoto's Thyroidis.
I have High Risk HPV.
I have a colop scheduled for next Tuesday.
My aunt died of cervical cancer and I am worried that may also be my rate.
Can the HPV possibly cause the OBSCURING INFLAMMATION noted on the report or could it be due to my perimenopause? I have not had a menstrual cycle in several months.
I am negative for G vaginalis; Candida and T Vag.
Thank you very much!
This is the worst PAP Smear that I have ever had! My PAP Smears in 2011 and 2013 were NORMAL. 2013 was POSITIVE for High Risk HPV. I have had ASCUS PAP Smears in the past (last time was in 2007). Previously I had CIN I or CIN 2, BUT NO DYSPLASIA.
I am really scared! Thanks again!!
I do not smoke or use any other tobacco products. I also am not a drinker.
I have developed hypertension recently and am taking a water pill/diuetic to assist with this condition.
I also take Vitamin D
And Levothyraxine (for thyroid) at a dosage of 75 mcg/day. I just started this medication.

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com
Firstly, this is not the worst Pap smear you have had !
CIN 1 and CIN 2 are considered worse off than this one.
Yes, HPV infection and perimenopause both can contribute to the inflammation that is obscuring the vision.
However, I fail to understand why has it been reported to be - satisfactory for evaluation.
If the smear is satisfactory for evaluation, in that case, it cannot be obscured !
Can you upload the exact report ?
There is no cause for concern, because having reviewed your history and previous smears, this one is better than you could have expected.
Just have the colposcopy for complete reassurance.
All the best
Please feel free to discuss further.
Regards.
The reason why I say it is worse is that the other reports came back as ASCUS, not LSIL and no dysplasia was found. So I feel that now I am on my way to developing Cervical Cancer. I am truly terrified! The information that I provided here is all I have so far. What is the chance that my Colop next week will show Cervical Cancer? I am very worried because of my compromised immune system due to my thyroid issues. Exhausted in fact!
