Woke up today with bright veins and little redness up in the upper right corner of my right eye, it doesn't itch but does hurt when I move my eye. Or blink. I've used over the counter eye drops but that just makes it burn. What it could be?

Hello, the symptoms that you have described are probably suggestive of an infection of the eye. The infection may be due to various causes such as: a)Conjunctivitis- this is a condition characterized by inflammation of the Conjunctiva. It is caused mainly by Adenovirus. It is quite common in children and called pink eye. This infection can easily spread from eye to better surfaces. b)Ocular histoplasmosis syndrome (OHS): It is a fungal infection, which affects the eye, particularly macula, which is the Central zone where vision cells are concentrated in large numbers. Herpes Simplex: This virus is usually present as a skin infection but can also affect the eye. It can cause ulceration of cornea. In chronic cases, patients may even lose their vision. c)Chlamydia and gonorrhea are sexually transmitted diseases, which can also cause Conjunctivitis. Here the eye infection occurs through semen or handling genital areas, which are infected. Neisseria Gonorrhea causes eye infection. d)Bacterial Keratitis- Here the infection occurs due to bacteria on skin and nose. e)Tuberculosis f)Leprosy g)Shingles, mumps, measles h)Lyme disease Such patients usually present with redness of the eye, pain, itching or foreign body sensation, increased lacrimation, discharge, and photosensitivity. Since, in your case there is discharge, which is a sign of infection, I would suggest you to consult your Ophthalmologist for a complete evaluation. You can also use Ciplox eye drops four times a day a week and avoid rubbing/touching your eye repeatedly. The infection will generally subside in a week. Thank you.
