Resolved question:
i was in a head on car crash in taxi on 6th August was in back seat, head badly shaken but no visible injuries. Got tested at hospital x-rays for shoulder and back, no broken bones, sore tissue in parts. I traveled by air last night and after shower got into bed. Experienced terrible dizziness so went to another hospital and was given betaserc 8 to stop the dizziness. It helped but was nauseous and vomited twice. Came home, slept and woke up not feeling very well. Head heavy, still a little dizzy and tired. Do I have a concussion? Will it go away? My vital signs are normal, I'm not confused and I am alert, although head is heavy and still a little dizzy

Inner ear (cochlear) related vertigo and dizziness; Thank you doc, very very helpful. I also did not suspect a concussion because the accident was on Tuesday and I was asymptomatic until I flew and lay on my bed after a shower. I seem to agree with your views, however I have not had vertigo since 2009. what new symptoms should I watch out for that could be concerning? Thanks very much again for your reassurance.
You should take notice if there are any neurological symptoms ranging from dizziness, headache, to comprehension or attention deficits. Persistent vomiting also should be considered as a warning sign. One suggestive feature for an inner ear problem is that the symptoms are rather pronounced and associated with nausea and vomiting. Typically the post concussion symptoms are very mild (which you might not even notice), while inner ear symptoms are very pronounced (as in your case).
Please take care that you are not actively looking for symptoms or obsessed about it. Mind can play tricks on you. So just be passively watchful. Rest should be business as usual.
Wish you good health. Please feel free to ask followup queries .
Thank you
hi doc, letting you know i went for a CT scan at the hospital and my results came out normal. N bleeding in the brain, its clear and doc showed me and explained the images. i'm not sure if i'm perhaps now reacting to betaserc because i'm feeling so sleepy after taking it and have head pressure and weakness in my legs when i wake up. it gets better during the day i feel i should stop it because my vertigo seems to have cleared up. what do you advise? thanks
Hello,
Yes you may stop Betaserc (Betahistine), although the symptoms are less likely to be of Betaserc. See how your symptoms are without the Betaserc. Please follow my previous recommendations. While CT can rule out any major bleeds or infarcts, mild changes could be missed / not visible. You might need an MRI brain for that purpose.
Hope this helps
Thank you
\just a note doc to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for your kind advice. I stopped taking Betaserc today and already my head feels good no symptoms at all. I also went to the hairdressers and took out a hairstyle that was a little tight on my head. I had my head washed and massaged and after this strangely I felt completely well. I was worried about feeling dizzy with my head back in the wash basin but I was okay. I feel so good and feel like myself now. In case I feel unwell tomorrow I will go for brain MRI just to be sure. I feel stronger and hope I sleep well tonight. Your advice has been invaluable to me. Many blessings to you. Maureen
Thank you
Good to know that your symptoms are resolving.
Wish you Good Health.
