Resolved question:
After many questions regarding bowel movements I have one more. Two bowel resections. One 16 years old patientago (colorectal) and one 3 years old patientago (right sided colon cancer). Here are my symptoms. Within 1/2 hour after eating my stomach begins grumbling and I have terrible gas pains followed by diarrhea. When I do move bowels, stool is yellow with mucous. I am taking Imodium and it helps somewhat. After I move bowels I have to go several times more. Sometimes some of the stool will float. I am stressing greatly over this. Had colonoscopy in February, 2014 and all normal. CEA 3 weeks ago and normal. Had CT 10 months ago and normal. Can the resection cause any of these symptoms? Any suggestions?

I would like to have some more information in order to give my best opinion.
1. Since when are you having this symptom?
2. Is the symptom getting worse with any specific food item?
3. Was a stool test done?
4. Any weight loss?
Kindly get back to me with these information and I would give my opinion.

Have been worse over last few months. Dairy makes it worse. No stool test done. Minor weight loss. But afraid to eat. Also it seems worse after drinking water with crystal light.
Hi,
Thanks for providing the additional information.
It is unlikely that resection of part of your large bowel is causing those symptoms.
You are having symptoms of small bowel involvement. It could be due to infection/maldigestion/malabsorption.I would advise you to get stool test done. You can try to avoid dairy products and see if there is any improvement.Include yogurt in your diet.Discuss with your doctor about the possibility of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and other malabsorption syndromes. You may get benefited with a course of Rifaximin and probiotics.
I hope that answers your question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.R.K.
