Growth of dead, dry, cracking skin in thumb. Treatment.

Resolved question:
Hello All! I have had what looks like to be a growth of dead/dry/thick/cracking skin on my thumb which has not healed in months. I am very bad about leaving it alone though because i am constantly picking at it. I was wondering what is the best way to get rid of this dry skin patch on my thumb knuckle. It almost looks swollen and protrudes a little off the thumb. Is there a medicated lotion i could use to treat it or would seeing a dermatologist be a necessity? Thank you!

Hello,

Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.com. I can understand your concern.

This seems to be really infected right now. You need to take an oral antibiotic like azithromycin for it.

Application of mupirocin cream twice a day will be helpful.

Once the infection settles down, you could send me a pic so I can see the actual lesion which got infected.

Please let me know if you have any queries.
Take care
