Groin pain after INGUINAL HERNIA REPAIR. Surgery?

Resolved question:
I had double inguinal hernia repair with mesh July 7th of this year. I am a 30 year old male. Last week I was riding my bike and now I feel the same groin pain I had presurgery for about 6 days now and its getting worse each day. Is it possible for the hernia to come back with mesh? Should I go to the same surgeon? Is it possible to do surgery again so soon? Should I go to the ER now or wait to see the surgeon? Sorry im just laying in bed now in pain and cant sleep because I am worried. Thank you.

Hello.
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
There are chances of recurrence of Inguinal hernia even after mesh repair.
Please consult the same surgeon. Tell your complaints and ask for an Ultrasound abdomen.
If at all any recurrence is there, it will be confirmed by Ultrasound.
Pain can be due to Mesh also.As Mesh is a foreign body, there will be irritation in the area initially. It could be due to MusculoSkeletal cause also.
You can go for surgery now also if there is recurrence.
Nothing to worry.
Please consult your Surgeon and get examined clinically.

Wish you good health.
Regards.

Thank you, there has been on and off pain higher up which I believe is from the mesh, not horrible pain. The pain feels the same as before on my right scrotum wall. When I examine the area it feels similar as before too. What I am getting at is I do not want to make a big deal out of this, demanding to be scene right away, asking for pain meds, only to find out its a muscle issue. The dr was great and I would feel bad wasting his time. That said is there anything I can do to more confirm it is a hernia. I did lift weights the same time after biking. How long would a pulled muscle last? Thank you!

Hello.

Incidence of recurrence is less after mesh repair, some studies claim it is less than 1 %.
The cause of concern is the complications later on such as bruising, hematoma, or seroma formation, but the incidence is low compared to other forms of repair.

You should not lift weights for atleast 1 year. Since you just had surgery, lifting weights or anything that increases the intra abdominal pressure, will increase the chances of it's recurrence.

Some amount of thickening near scrotum is expected after surgery. It's not of much concern.

Hernia can be diagnosed by Ultrasound abdomen or CT Scan abdomen. CT Scan is more reliable. It will also be able to pick up in case there is any hematoma, or seroma near the mesh.
In case the pain is from a muscle pull, it won't stay beyond 3-4 days and gradually improve. However the pain from hernia persists, and is quite vague.

Hope I answered your query.
If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Regards.
