Resolved question:
Hi, I am a 30 year old male, in relatively good shape, taking no medications, and no illnesses that I know of. I drink minimally, don't smoke, and don't take drugs.
About 40 hours ago, just before bed, I began to feel like I was coming down with something. I felt lethargic, and maybe had a touch of a fever. I woke up, and while it wasn't as bad after a good night's sleep, it was enough to keep me home from work. The symptoms have lasted nearly 40 hours now, and I get panicky.
Current symptons are: Slight, very slight, fever, lack of energy (not a sleepy feeling, just a blah don't feel like moving feeling), and minor scratchy dry throat. I'm concerned because I feel OK but it's all holding back my energy level and doesn't seem to be improving. Thoughts?

Hello,
Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring
Your symptom pattern is suggestive of a Viral Prodrome. This happens with viral infection (? probably a viral pharyngitis ). The body immune response kicks in and the inflammatory mediators are released causing symptoms.
This is the most likely explanation. It might take 72+ hours for complete resolution. I assume you do not have any unusual symptoms like sever headache, chest pain, decreased urine output, leg swelling, abdominal discomfort, or diarrhoea. Take adequate rest and plenty of oral fluids. Your symptoms should resolve in a day to two. If not / of there are any new symptoms you will require further evaluation.
Hope this helps
Please feel free to ask followup queries.
Thank you
So, it has been just over 5 weeks now since I last wrote to you. For the first couple weeks, the only thing that helped me to feel better was plenty of rest. This would get me through for a couple of days following lots of rest, however I was still experiencing episodes of bad malaise, listlessness, and very little appetite. However, each week, the episodes have become fewer in occuring, and less instense, and my appetite has begun to return to almost normal. I have a fear of having blood drawn, but still did go to the doctor twice over the past 5 weeks. My blood pressure was 120 over 80, I have no pain, no fever, and no rash. However I only feel about 90% of myself in terms of energy and motivation, (in week 2 it was probably 60-70%) and still have the occasional episode of feeling unwell for a few hours until I rest. My skin has got pale a few times, but the paleness seems to come and go. Overall, I've been able to go to work each day the last few weeks, as opposed to the beginning when I struggled to make it through a full work day. Any thoughts on why I am not 100% better 100% of the time? Someone had suggested I may have a vitamin defiency, (while I am thin and young, I've never been a fan of eating right, sleeping right, and hydrating). The past 10 days or so I've made a concious effort to eat more foods rich in iron, B12, and folate, and get a good nights sleep. I've noticed some improvement in the way I feel. However whenever I notice my hands look pale, or I have a minor recurring episode (malaise) as I did yesterday, I think the worst! Then it subsides after some rest, but I freak out again if I notice my hands are pale. I'm thinking anemia? Your thoughts??
