I'm 22, female and am constantly feeling tired and slightly dizzy, I can't concentrate and my mind seems slow. Sometimes in the mornings my fingertips, both on hands and legs turn blue and my hair is falling out, mostly the fine, short hair around hairline. I have been taking vitamins for a year now and treated with anti-depression medication for 3 months which did not help, on the contrary - after starting to take anti-depressants I lost the little bit of will power I had and I have become even more sleepy, now even caffine does not help. My GP send me to therapy but I'm positive that whatever problem I have can not be treated by talking about it. What would be the specialist I should see to get actual help or maybe there are other ways how to fight tiredness?

Hello, Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring. I understand what you are going through. From your symptoms, it more so points out to hypothyroidism. I would suggest you to first stop with your anti depressants. Hypothyroidism is seen to be affecting women very commonly these days. In hypothyroidism your BMR is less and that's the reason for your fatigue. In this condition there is intolerance to cold and there is suggestive evidence of alopecia, falling of hair. Thyroid hormone is very required in our body for every cell to function properly. A deficiency will decrease the BMR and therefore functioning of cells are effected including your brain. You will tend to have less concentration and easily getting tired. I suggest you to take a blood profile for thyroid hormones. Consult a general physician, who will ideally start you on Levithyroxine. I also suggest you to look in if your salt is iodinated, if not try having iodinated salt as iodine deficiency also is one of the causes for hypothyroidism. Try doing yoga or exercise everyday.
