Resolved question:
I have trouble reading. I do not have dyslexia, but I feel that something is missing when I am reading. The smoothness and ability to skim through text has somehow been damaged. When I went to high school I did not have this issue. It occured around 3 years ago.
Than one day when I was trying to study, which i generally have problems with due to this problem, I noticed something really weird. After drinking a cup of coffee my reading ability suddenly became normal again. But this only lasted for about 5 seconds.
I tried asking a doctor from my country if he understood how coffee could affect my reading abilities, but apparantly he had no clue at all. The reason I am asking you, is that I might fail my studies because of this. So I need help.
Do you know something that can help me?

Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.
I can understand your discomfort on account of reading problems for the past three years, which is interfering with your studies too.
This problem is related to brain. Reading is controlled by the left half of brain in most right-handed individuals. So, in your case, there seems to be a problem with the left hemisphere of brain.
Common problems include lack of adequate blood flow to the area, lack of adequate brain nutrition (including vitamin B12), trauma to the concerned area of brain, or any other pathology including tumors.
Coffee can improve the blood circulation of the brain, thereby providing relief for a short while; however, it does not provide long term relief.
I hope it helps. Please get back if you have any more queries.
Best wishes,
Dr. Sudhir Kumar MD (Medicine), DM (Neurology)
