Resolved question:
My child has an ear infection. Her eardrum burst this morning. She has no fever and her energy level is normal. Her regular doctors office is closed for the holidays. Is it necessary to take her to an urgent care facility, or are there symptoms that we can watch for to see if the condition worsens instead of bringing her in?

If there is going to be a delay of more than 24-36 hours (from the onset of possible rupture) till you receive care from your Doctor, it is better to visit the ER /Urgent care.
The most common cause for rupture is infection. And even before that an Ear examination has to be done to see whether there are signs of infection and/or rupture.
Sever ear ache / dizziness / sever foul smelling discharge from the ear / fever / persistent headache are the warning signs which you should watch out for. If any one or more of the signs are present care should not be delayed.
Meanwhile do not put any drops in the ear. Keep the ear absolutely dry. Avoid wetting the child's head . Get in touch with your Doctor as soon as possible for further evaluation.
