Chances of transmitting HERPES from kissing, oral sex.

Resolved question:
My boyfriend whom I have been seeing for 6 months, found out he has Herpes. He was married for 28 years and she left him and he had a one night stand. I have no symptoms being infected as of yet. My questions are....
Can I get the virus from kissing him?
Can I get it from touching his penis?
Can he give it to me performing oral sex on me?
If I do get it or if I have already been infected can I give it to my children by hugging or kissing them?

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
It depends on whether he has oral herpes ( HSV-1 ) or genital herpes ( HSV-2 ).
A patient suffering from oral herpes, can transmit the infection to the partner while he has an outbreak. Genital herpes is also transmitted during periods of sexual activity, and can be avoided by using condoms. Although condoms do not provide 100 % protection, but during periods of outbreaks, it is the best method.
- You can get HSV-1, if he has HSV-1 from kissing if he has an outbreak.
- Touching penis won't pass on the infection, coming in close contact with his blisters if he has HSV-2 infection can pass on the infection.
- If he has HSV-1, he can pass on the infection, by oral sex, but chances are low.
- Even for this question, the chance is extremely low, because if you have outbreaks, you will avoid kissing children anyway.
Regards.

Thank you. I do not know what type he has. He had 1 blister come on his penis and that has been it so far. He was started on the medication for this and it has gone. No sores on his mouth. So you are saying if he doesn't have the type of oral then I"m ok with kissing and him giving me oral sex?? And I couldn't give them herpes just by touching htem? I've read any skin to skin.
