Resolved question:
While my boyfriend and I have had Herpes 1 for a long time, we never had any outbreaks until a week ago when I had a very painful cold sore. Neither of us have seen other people except that I recently spend time with my girlfriends, on vacation, and shared drinks with them. Now am paranoid that I might have caught Herpes 2 and that is what caused my cold sore.
What are your thoughts?

Where did you get the cold sore? Cold sore in the mouth is suggestive of herpes 1 infection and not herpes 2.
HSV-2 infection can only be transmitted through sexual contact with someone who has active herpes 2 infection. The symptoms are sores around the genitalia, and a rash extending up to the anus.

The cold sore was on my lower lip on my mouth. I have tried to attach a picture. Very painful and as I mentioned, although I have had herpes 1 for some time, I have never had an outbreak until this one, leading me to fear that I might have been infected with something else, like herpes 2, that caused this outbreak.

This looks like a typical cold sore due to herpes 1 infection.
Do not worry about herpes 2. It can only be transmitted sexually on contact with an infected partner.
You can take Valacyclovir as per your physician's guidance to resolve the cold sore.
