Hi,

Thanks for posting your query at DoctorSpring.

I am Dr.Ratnakar Kini and I am pleased to assist you.

No, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) do not cause joint pain.

But Crohn's disease which is a type of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is associated with joint pain. Crohn's disease can affect the gastrointestinal tract anywhere from mouth to anus. Another type of IBD called the Ulcerative colitis which affects the colon is also associated with joint pains.

But I would not entertain a diagnosis of Crohn's just because you had the joint pains. Remember joins pains are a common symptom even in young age. It could a passing inflammation or viral arthralgia. Give it some time to rest. An over the counter pain medications like Ibuprofen can help.

You might require colonoscopy and some tests if the symptoms persist and if there are other suggestive symptoms.

I hope that answers your question.

Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr.Ratnakar Kini
