Resolved question:
I am a land surveyor, therefor I'm out in the woods, swamps, etc. every day. I believe that I have had a small reaction to some poison sumac (it has been a long time since poison ivy or oak has given me any trouble, which is why I think it is sumac).. Before I realized that I had gotten into it, I had already spread it to the left side of my face. It swelled up a little and was itchy, of course. I have been rubbing Cortizone-10 on it for the itching.
After three days now, the swelling and itching have seemed to subside, however the infected area on my face is now bruised. I have rubbed the area very little, so I wouldn't think that would cause the bruising.
Is bruising part of the poison remedying itself out of my face? Or is it part of a reaction that I had to the poison? My main concern is: Do I need to go see a doctor, or is this bruising something I don't need to worry about?

Hello,
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com
I understand your concern.
Yes, it looks slightly bruised but that is common in the recovery phase.
As of now, it will take another couple of days to completely subside.
In addition to the cortisone cream, you can also take Tab. Levocetirizine 5 mg once at bedtime for 3 days. If the itching has completely subsided it may not be necessary.
Also, you can apply Calamine lotion which will further enhance your recovery.
You need not worry. This does not look like anything to be concerned about.
Please feel free to discuss further,
Regards.
