Resolved question:
I've had abdominal discomfort and bloating on and off for 5 days. I checked my temperature tonight and I have a slight fever - 99.3 degrees. I have GERD and am lactose intolerant, but the symptoms I'm having are far above and beyond what I usually experience. Can you help?

Hello. A temperature of 99.3 is just a mild rise and shouldn't be a cause for worry. I hope this helps for now. Please reply to the queries in the follow up. Thank you.
Thank you for your query at DoctorSpring.com.
I understand your concern.
It looks like you might be having a stomach bug. However, you do not have to worry as it will resolve soon.
I would like a few additional details for me to guide you further.
1. Are your bowel movements regular or do you have any diarrhea or constipation?
2. Any nausea or frank abdominal pain?
3. Is there any blood or mucus in your stools?
4. Have you introduced anything new in your diet?
Meanwhile, you should take plenty of fluids, probiotic drinks/supplements and avoid excessive gas forming foods like beans, raw vegetables such as sprouts, asparagus, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower etc.
You can take an OTC like Simethicone (Gas-X® etc) 40 mg after each meal to reduce the bloating.
Thank you. I have had a little bit of diarreah, but that isn't unusual for me at all. No nausea. I'm not sure what you mean by frank abdominal pain - could you elaborate? No blood or mucus in stool and nothing new in my diet.
Hello. Thanks for writing to us again.
Frank abdominal pain, is the type of pain localized only to the abdomen, not radiating anywhere, also associated with some cramps. As mentioned earlier, it seems you got a stomach bug. Since there is no blood or mucus, it rules out most parasite infestations. So i will advise you to start Tab. Ofloxacin- Ornidazole ( Its a combination, if you mention to the pharmacist, he will be able to give the correct drug ) twice daily after food for the next 3-5 days, depending on the severity of your symptoms.
Continue taking Simethicone. It will help in relieving the bloating. Also take probiotic drink/ supplements. This will help in quicker recovery. If you have more than 3 episodes of loose stools you can use OTC Tab. Loperamide to be used only if necessary. It will reduce the frequency of your bowel movements and also help in relieving in any associated cramps.
Hope this helps.
Do post additional queries, if you have any.
