Hello,
Thank you for consulting.
Human height is genetically determined although few nutritional environmental factors definitely play a key role. Growth spurt usually occurs around the age of puberty which is around 13-14 years in males. After the pubertal growth spurt, rate of growth usually declines and final height is usually reached by 18-20 years in males. Growing in height beyond 20 years is highly unlikely. Average male height in India is around 1.6 meters.
Short stature can be due to hormonal imbalance in childhood. But final average height is usually reached if treated properly in child hood. But supplementing with hormones will not work after final height is reached as end portions of long bones called epiphyseal regions are usually fused by this time which precludes any chance of further growth in height. If you are on par with your parents’ or siblings’ height, then you short stature is mostly hereditary.
Your body mass index is normal range according to your height and weight. BMI (Body Mass Index) which takes into account weight and height is more useful than height alone to assess health. So, I suggest you to not worry about height and improve your self esteem. Have a healthy life style.
I hope this surely helps you. Please get back with any further queries.
thank you sir
i have another doubt
is there any chance for increasing my height by using growth hormone supplements like step up growth powder etc., or by doing stretching exercises ,swimming & rope skipping etc....
: Hi,
As I have mentioned before, hormone supplements will be useful in children around the age of 13-14 when pubertal growth spurt occurs. After the age of 20, the long bones of our body whose growth is related to our height no longer grow as their end plates (epiphyses) close. From then on vertical growth comes to a halt.
Exercises, swimming etc., will definitely improve your overall health and physique. Eating balanced diet and regular exercise routine is always advised. But they cannot increase your height once your final adult height is reached. I advise you to not take hormone supplements like these without prescription of doctor as they may be potentially harmful.
Hope this helps. Thank you.
thank you
