Resolved question:
I'm trying to identify the cause of aching kidneys. I'm 36 F and take spiractin, the pill and multi vitimins. I have been advised to take magnesuim tablets which i've done for 2 days now. I've also stopped drinking, i was dong so about a bottle of wine, 2 beers every other night and 5 shots of whiskey each week. I've started drinking more water for the last 2 weeks at least a litre daily, though my kidneys still ache. I intend to give a few more days drinking about 2 litres of water each day, i find, even though its recomended, if feels its too much to drink each day doesn't feel right. Can your pleases give me some professional medical advice regarding other posible causes that could be more serious and other symptoms that could be causing aches.
I have also found that my hip aches and sometimes when i'm relaxing on an evening i can't even sit down for only a few seconds before i feel ass feeling like its got pins and needles.

Hello,
Thank you for asking your query at DoctorSpring.
I will require some additional information from you in order to provide you my best opinion. You can reply directly as a followup question.
1. Can you please describe the symptoms you mean by “aching kidneys” . Kidney ache is rather a non specific term. I just want to be sure about your symptom.
2. Do you have any pain or hesitancy while urination ?
3. Do you have back pain as such (like a lightning pain / constant pain) other than the hip pain ?
4. I would also like to know why your Doctor prescribed you Spiractin and Magnesium
Thank you.
Thank you for your reply. I only just got your email as i'm in Australia and the time zone is dramatically different to the United States, Regarding your questions -
1. Lower back pain around base of spine and kidneys. Its not a severe pain just a constant light ache.
2. No, unine has colour even when drinking lots of water. If i drink alcohol for a day or 2 it sometmes contains a little blood.
3. Yes
4. Spiractin helps reduce body hair, which i have none but spiractin keeps that in control as i'm a model. i was advised that Magnesium helps joints and kidneys. 3 days ago.
Thank you
Hello,
Thank you for providing additional details. Analysing your medical history it is obvious that the cause your pain is not in the kidneys. The lower back pain, the hip pain and pins and needles point towards a pinched nerve (compressed nerve) in the back. As you may know all the nerves exit from the spinal cord through your vertebrae. Any compression here can cause pain even down the thighs or where ever the nerve supplies. The compression increases when you sit down – resulting in pins and needles.
The presence of ‘little blood’ in your urine needs evaluation. Now it cannot be said whether it is part of the same problem. Hence you have a history of heavy alcohol intake this needs evaluation, since you have higher risk of mass/ growth in the bladder. As a first step I recommend the following :
1. A Neurological examination by your Doctor
2. MRI of the Lumbosacral spine (if the Neuro examination is positive)
3. A Urine Routine examination
4. Ultrasound Scan of the Pelvis and Abdomen.
To conclude there is nothing to worry as of now, but your symptoms do need evaluation and cannot be ignored. Hope this helps. Please feel free to ask followup questions.
Thank you
