Resolved question:
There is a small red clot below my tongue. I noticed it in the morning while brushing my teeth and thought it was some food stuck there. Can you please see the attached picture and let me know what it is? Is it just a blood clot that will go away in a few days?

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query. I can understand your concern.
From the picture, you seem to be having a pyogenic granuloma. Its an overgrowth of vascular tissue. Its benign in nature. However, it bleeds on trauma.
The best treatment for it would be excision or freezing it.
I would recommend that you meet your doctor for the same, as it definitely needs treatment and would not resolve on its own.
Hope this helps, please feel free to discuss further.
Take care
Dear Dr Kruti,
Thank you for your response. Which type of doctor would I need to consult for further treatment? What could the possible causes for this be? Can you please also refer this to another specialist (Oral / Dental Specialist or Oncologist) on DoctorSpring? How are you sure that it is benign?
Thanks!
Tarun
Hello,
A dermatologist or a surgeon would be able to treat you for it.
There are no causes for it.
By the morphology and the location of the lesion, it seems to be a pyogenic granuloma which is a benign lesion.
However, after excising it, the doctor will send it for histopathology. That will be able to confirm the benign nature of the lesion.
