Round red spot on leg

Resolved Question:

I have a spot on my leg that I think could be skin cancer. Not sure how to tell. It is a big round red spot with scaly flaky skin. It itches and I know it isn't ringworm. I tried to upload a picture but I don't think it went through

Thank you for the response. Hopefully the picture uploaded that time. I also sent it to the email you attached. It came from [email protected]. It has been growing in size and I have probably had it a few months. Everything I have looked up on it hasn't worked for treatment. The skin in that area is also slightly raised, too

Hello

Thanks for posting your query. I can understand your concern.

From the picture, there seems to be two possibilities :-

1. Tinea incognito - it's a condition where application of steroid creams on ringworm causes this condition which is resistant to treatment and keeps increasing in size. The treatment for this condition would be application of lamisil cream on the lesion.

2. psoriasis - psoriasis is a skin condition where there is flaking of skin on a red raised area called erythematous plaque.

It can affect other areas of the body including the scalp, nails and joints.

It's a condition which is due to increased skin flaking over the body.

The ideal treatment to control psoriasis is application of an emollient like vaseline petroleum jelly.

Taking omega 3 fatty acids supplements are thought to be useful in resolving the condition.

The itching can be controlled by intake of tab. Claritin once at night.

I recommend you apply lamisil cream first and in case it doesn't resolve within two weeks, to start application of vaseline.

It's surely not skin cancer.

Please let me know if you have any queries regarding the condition.

Take care
